Megapixels are a fools game but the camera on the iphone. Even the 3GS is pretty poor. Plastic lens, no flash, even LED. It's poor for 2009 when most smart phones have proper lenses and flash. The way I see it is that Apple caters to the US market where there's not much in the way of better devices. The rest of the world wants a phone that can replace their camera. Apple just don't deliver. Agreed.

The simple reason is that phone cameras have very small sensors and crappy lenses, meaning that increasing the megapixel count is going to result in excessively grainy photos.
