If people like iPhones so much why are there so many on eBay?

Right now I’m staring at eBay.com and noticing that there’s well over 4000 used iPhones for sale.  If they’re so bloody fantastic then why is everyone selling them? The answer is – to get another phone. This was obvious from the very first day the iPhone went on sale when used models started turning up on eBay within days of the phone going on sale.

Apple’s marketing machine does a very good job of sucking us in with their swish ads which, by the way, are all faked but within a couple of days, maybe even hours, the reality sets in. A great web browser but not a very good phone.

My guess is that a lot of people buy them. Find they don’t meet their needs and sell them. That and unwanted gifts from evangelical iphone owners.

Lots of iPhones for sale on eBay because people want to upgrade to a newer model, and the resale value is VERY high.

It’s because those are fake Chinese clones, of course.

According to this, 17 millions iPhones have been sold : http://www.networkworld.com/news/2009/032409-apple-has-sold-17-million.html

This means 0.023529412% are unhappy. Not bad

there’s 4 thousand iphones for sale on ebay because an unlocked 3g iphone is selling for enough price to get an upgrade to the 3gs and maybe even make some profit. my roommate sold his 3g unlocked for $500 two days before the 3gs and then picked up a 32gig 3gs and still walked away with a cool 100 bucks extra in his pocket (after fees, taxes, and extended warranty). who wouldn’t do that? it’s basically a free upgrade.

i came to this website to see some legit reasons why the iphone sucks (the camera issue for example makes sense). but if seeing iphones for sale on ebay is your reason, then you’re just a moron.

Notice the story says used iphones on ebay. We’re not talking about people unlocking and turning the phones over for profit. These phones are clearly being sold by people who bought one and don’t want it anymore.

I think the argument that a lot of people are getting rid of their iphones is legitimate.

The stories on this blog are great! I don’t know why people get so sensitive. The reasons cited for the iphone sucking range from absolutely, spot on, correct through to tongue in cheek humour through to downright trolling. The problem is that iphoners always take the bait. Even when there was none intended.

You’re missing the point here. Search any other phone that’s sold as much as the iPhone and see how many are being resold on eBay. Sure, there’s a significant portion OF THE ONES BEING sold that are listed by users who don’t like their phones. And there’s also a huge amount of people that simply want the new one or to make some extra cash. Search for yourself and you’ll see how many are being sold as unlocked phones.

The only point I was trying to make was that posts like these don’t legitimize the claim that iPhones suck they just make the posters look like the whiners that the authors claim us iPhone users are. I’m calling them out on it. As I said, I don’t question legit concerns- like how we don’t have mms yet even though our phones are currently capable. Or that we have a shoddy camera (still tkaes amazing pics though). But posts like this piss me off because it’s just someone looking for completely unfounded and somewhat ridiculous ways to pick on the iPhone.
