iPhone fever means other phone owners get left out

Even though the iPhone sux I have to admit. There’s some great apps out there for it and some top notch developers working on great apps for it. However, what these developers often forget is that there’s a hell of a lot of smart phones out there other from the iPhone. In fact the iPhone barely dented world wide smart phone sales last year racking in at 8%.

The extent of iphone developer fever is so bad that some big websites out there in their rush to jump on the iPhone bandwagon have built some great apps but haven’t even managed to update their mobile websites to support the newer breed of mobile web browsers. Some sites are so bad they’re WAP only, others assume your phone has a resolution of 100×100 pixels  and others still just assume you’re incapable of displaying images or another colours other than black and white.

So to anyone thinking of making an iPhone app. Remember, there were five times as many Nokia smart phones sold last year than iPhones and this isn’t likely to change much. There’s also a Nokia App store, you’re missing out on a HUGE market.

This especially applies to you Tweet Deck, you make a damn fine cross platform desktop app but why couldn’t you do the same on the mobile? The tools are out there. Or has everyone forgotten about J2ME and Flash Lite.
