The iPhone compared to a phone from the year 2000

Nokia 3310 vs iPhoneWe drew up a comparison chart of the Nokia 3310 a phone from the year 2000 vs the latest iphone 3GS. Like most iphone users you probably just upgraded from a similar specced phone so it may astound you to know that this phone actually has many features that the iphone doesn’t.

Feature iPhone 3310 Winner
Weight 135 grams 133 grams 3310
Built in games - 3 3310
Total Sales No idea ( 5? ) 130 million 3310
Display Shiny hard to see in sunlight Highly visible in all light thanks to green backlight 3310
Customisable screen savers - 3310
WAP Browser - 3310

As you can see the Apple iPhone is lacking many features (particularly Snakes) that many of today’s serious phone buyers really demand.

Here’s a fun video Omio put together on the iphone vs a Nokia 3210:

Do you really expect this cherry-picked comparison to be taken seriously?

“… it may astound you to know that this phone actually has many features that the iphone doesn’t.”

By ‘many features’ you mean all six that you contrived to rig this comparison? I’ll add one more, so you can pad the chart even more:

Has the letters ‘a’ and ‘k’ in the name: 3310 FTW!

You do realise that the author wrote this mainly in jest don’t you? One can hardly expect to compare the iphone seriously to a phone from almost ten years ago.

However, it does go to show the iphone is kind of missing some of the features more serious business phones have. Especially the ever increasing weight decreasing battery life.

You also need to put things in perspective. The Nokia mentioned is one of the best selling phones ever. Total iphone sales pale in comparison to this phone and aren’t even a glitch on the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_1100 which sold over 200 million units during its short life.

Oh, now I get it. This entire site is written mainly in jest!

    (What a great rationalization.)

I guess I should simply ignore the line, “As you can see the Apple iPhone is lacking many features that many of today’s serious phone buyers really demand.” ‘Cause there’s nothing serious about this post, this blog, or the person who writes it. Pardon me for not getting the double-standard.

this post, and this site in general, exemplify all that is wrong with the world today.
First, hand picked data to skew the story. You say it’s not a “serious phone” then use the number of included games as a comparison. You also left out the fact that there are 20,000+ FREE games available for the iPhone.
Second, you say that the iPhone is 2 grams heavier than the Nokia. Really? 2g? How much does that Nokia Communicator weigh that you discuss in the evolution of the smart phone article?
I also love the included WAP browser. That’s classic!
Maybe we should all just start blogging about things we like. Spend our energy promoting the things we enjoy, and leave all this negativity in the past…

    This entry cracks me up.

I really wish they would bring that Nokia back… with Snake. I tried at the store and they told me no. I have to buy phones with short battery life and features I really couldn’t care less about. BLACK AND WHITE TEXT BASED PHONES FOREVER. Making a call was so much easier back then.

  7. Ian says:

I have many fond memories of playing Snake on my Nokia candybar phone between classes when I went to college. I was a sad enough bastard to get a perfect score on one of the middle difficulty settings, too.

The fact that there is no built-in Snake game for iPhone is inexcusable! The Droid commercials should include this tidbit: iDon’t Have Snake.

Gotta love it when fanboys get all serious :-D This website is doing very well in upsetting them. I’m still not sure why they even bother to defend the Iphone on an anti-Iphone website.
